For Healthcare (Electronic Medical Records)

In healthcare in general, one of the critical requirements is preserving the confidentiality of patient information — both in terms of general information (name, address, SSN, etc) present in many systems, and the medical information for that patient.

Any computer system which stores medical information is subject to the regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and possibly additional regulations from other government agencies.  See www.hipaa.org for details.

There are a few different terms in use — HealthCare IT, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), or Electronic Health Records (EHR).  All attempt to improve the quality of care and medical efficiency by converting paper-based medical information to digital formats which can be managed on computers.  The term EMR has been used generically on this site to refer to all forms of medical systems.

A good general discussion can be found here (EMR) or here (EHR).

Nimbus can offer major benefits to support the transition to EMR with low cost and most importantly the security required when managing patient information.
